about

I started writing this on a train, and I was literally looking at the ‘faint silhouette of pylons’ out of the window. I bet so many song lyrics have been written on public transport, ‘cos there just ain’t much else to do! I think I was feeling crap about life, like we all do sometimes, and had a bit of a wave of realisation that I have got it GOOD. I have a home, and a family, I have things I’m passionate about, friends I love, and although I’ve chosen a career path which, let’s be honest, is not bringing in the pounds, it’s giving me the opportunity to experience so many amazing things!

In this current generation we are over-thinkers. We are constantly reaching one little milestone and wanting more, questioning our value on this earth if we aren’t known and appreciated by a ton of people. Similarly to Calm Places, this is inspired by that realisation that you don’t need constant validation to be happy, and that most of us have all the ingredients in our life already to be comfortable physically and mentally. And if you don’t, well, maybe things could be worse, maybe they couldn’t, but hang on to whatever you have, and use it to paint a new and better picture. :)

lyrics

The middle of nowhere seems empty at first
But smile at the silence, things could be worse.
Faint silhouette of the pylons I see.
Longing for their electricity.

It’s colder than death but I’ve got a hat
That’s more than many so I’ll think of that
I’d like to stop longing cos life is too short
Warming my hands by scribbling thoughts

I’ve got a roof to reside under
A hood to hide under
I’ve got a roof to reside under
An umbrella to fly under

Fixed a shelf on a diagonal line
Forcing objects to fall as I climb
Don’t overthink it’s already been thought
You can hang an empty picture frame on the wall

You're overthinking every thought
You've got to smile remembering things could be so much worse
And when the rain pours down, you swear at the sky, cursing the day, asking it why
